Referral criteria

This is a lifespan service, open to all ages of people with a confirmed or suspected intellectual disability. We are an assessment-led service, with a small treatment caseload for higher tariff cases. Intervention is often through recommendations, training, consultation and supervision to others. We work with a number of different problems, for example assessment of possible intellectual disability, mental illness, behaviour that challenges, issues surrounding capacity, adult and child protection.

Additional information

The service operates an open referral system, where explicit informed consent of the individual being referred or their legal guardian has been provided.

It is suggested, where possible, referrals come via the GP, to ensure any possible physical health concerns can be considered prior to referral.

Refer via SCI Gateway...Mountainhall...Clinical Psychology...Psychology and choose Learning difficulties option.

Should any referrer wish to speak to a member of staff in relation to a referral please contact 01387 244495 or email: dg.psychology@nhs.scot
